Frankenstein Hard Cover Illuminated Edition

Created by Ethereal Visions Publishing

The world’s first science fiction novel—and for many, the world’s first truly unique novel in the English language—was the culmination of myriad threads of fate. Taking a step back from the well known and beloved Hollywood version of Mary Shelley’s groundbreaking creation, this edition of Frankenstein will approach the story of the creator’s original concept of Frankenstein’s Monster. This edition is a self-reflection of the darker side of Victor and the relationship to his creation. Each chapter of this edition will have an original line illustration header created in the traditional style of artists such as Edmund Dulac and Arthur Rackham from the early to mid 1900’s. The book will feature four stunning tipped-in color plates revealing the journey of the monster from conception to birth to self-awareness and finally to the acceptance of mortality and solitude. This unique publication will include: • Hard cover 10" x 7.25" portrait Casebound; smyth sewn • Gold foil stamp with two colors on front and spine of cover • 240 pages (100gsm dong fang cream wood free pages) • Two color black and red interior (black text with red line illustrations on every chapter header) • Four full color tipped-in plates on tinted paper • Illustrated end pages • Ribbon marker • Gilded stained edges • Tissue covers for the 4 tipped-in plates • Frontispiece illustration • Aged appearance applied by hand to cover This edition will come complete with a foreword by Sean Kotz (Radford University Instructor, Cinema; Director, Horse Archer Productions).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARY SHELLEY!!

Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein, was born on 30 August 1797. Obviously, she holds a special place in our hearts and her monster lives on!

In the image below you can see how William Godwin recorded the birth of his daughter in his journal. The entry marking Mary's birth is the fourth down on the left hand side and notes the "Birth of Mary, 20 minutes after 11 at night."

UPDATE ON BOOKS:

Below is a shot from the printers. It is a great "progress" shot as it shows the books just after the tipped-in plates have been added. It is a tedious process but well worth the wait!

  • After case-in is done (cover attached to book block) the books are placed in a humidity controlled room for dehydration and to reduce moisture in the books.
  • Once dry the tip in pages are glued. To absorb the moisture of the glue, two pieces of art paper with gloss lamination are inserted on the front and back of the tip-in pages, that means 8 pieces of paper are inserted in the book. These sheets of course will be removed.
  • Quality control will check for any excess glue or markings
  • Tissue pages are then inserted

Just a quick shot of the kinds of steps we take with every project to ensure a beautiful, high quality book!

Books have gone into final production!
over 4 years ago – Sat, Aug 03, 2019 at 12:08:32 AM

We have just been notified by the printer that the final production of our Frankenstein Illuminated book has now begun! This means we are several weeks ahead of the original December schedule and are very optimistic that final delivery to backers will begin in late October / early November. This was not an easy task and involved many hours of back and forth with our wonderful printer in California, but we are so excited at the progress.

Unfortunately, now comes the hardest part - waiting. Printing will take the majority of August to complete. Once the books are printed, they will begin their journey across the ocean to us here in Atlanta, GA. This could take up to 2 months to clear customs. Once they arrive we will begin shipping them out to all backers (could take up to 3 weeks for the US and longer for overseas backers). We will continue to be diligent and will speed up the process whenever the opportunity arises.

Thank you again for helping us produce this wonderful first in a series creation! We can't wait to hear your feedback on the final product.
